I know this sounds rather stupid, pero paano mo ma-trace kung kinopya yung design mo? Without someone telling you or without the site hotlinking your files. May pwede ka bang ilagay na code sa theme mo (like wordpress) or template mo, para ma-detect mo kung may nangopya?

Hope it makes sense po.

One hard question first: what makes you think that anybody is going to copy/steal your template or design-- are you really that good?

Now that that's out of the way, if the "taker" knows what he's doing, he will probably see whatever you put in your template and just remove it. But if he really knows what he's doing (i.e., the guy's a pro), he'd probably give you credit anyway. So, you can try searching for whatever copyright/licensing statements that you put in your template footers.

But don't get your hopes up. If the guy's a real pro and you're not releasing your work under a copyleft scheme, he's not going to use your work.

You can leave something in your CSS and JavaScripts too. Then do the occasional search for "filetype:css [whatever you put in your CSS code here]" and "filetype:js [whatever you put in your JavaScript code here]". Of course, it the guy knows what he's doing, he'd have his css and javascript folders banned from indexers.

But going back to the first question: what makes you think anybody is going to steal those things from you? ;D

One hard question first: what makes you think that anybody is going to copy/steal your template or design-- are you really that good?

But going back to the first question: what makes you think anybody is going to steal those things from you? ;D

Hang on a minute. In normal circumstances (in forums that is), I don't usually react to most things that is highly likely to start any kind of heated debate. But let me clear this out for you.

First of, not sure if you understand my question completely. There was nothing in the post that referenced the word "me, myself nor I". The question itself is quite clear. How would "YOU" know if someone copied "Your" theme or template.

The question arised as I recalled a short article I read ages ago who claimed that his particular theme had been ripped. I just wondered how someone would realise this if images aren't even hotlinked.

Anyway, going back to your challenging question: what makes you think that anybody is going to copy/steal your template or design-- are you really that good?

I never dreamt of someone stealing my design (if ever I learn) actually. Right from the very beginning, I think i'd been very honest that I'm an absolute novice in anythnig about web development.

Also, should I learn and become "really that good", I would "probably" be extremely happy just to see my first ever "really good design" here and there even without any sort of credit as the author. It's what I call ego, I must be "really that good" for someone to copy it :) I'll be the most honoured person, without a doubt.

Finally, it's a humble question posted in the hope of finding some answers from fellow Pinoys. A sincere thanks to you and to Arnold for all your contributions.

...words...

Don't take the question personally. The question wasn't meant to be offensive or derogatory. It's just a reality check. Regardless of whether you explicitly said anything on the subject of the question, the fact that you asked implies that you're at least concerned about such things as others using/"ripping" your work without permission, now or in the future.

First of, not sure if you understand my question completely...

Matter of fact is I did, that is why I contributed a couple of methods that you can use. But with all questions of "how", there is also question of "why". While you've made things clearer now-- that you've read about some guy complaining-- it still begs asking, why are you so interested?

It's not about you as a person. It's all about your (our) motivation as a designer to protect your work.

Again, don't take it as an attack or an offence. It's a tough question that from experience, not too many people are willing to answer. ;D

@hironakamura

bro tingin ko hindi ikaw yung tinutukoy ni Samhain13 sa stament nya na are you really that good?

yung "you" stands for an anonymous character in his sentence. example kapag nag kwe-kwento ka or meron kang pinapaliwanag sa kausap mo at gumagamit ka ng "ka" or "ikaw" pero hindi yung kausap mo mismo ang tinutukoy mo kundi sample character lang sa sentence.

pertaining to your post...

copying/stealing designs or idea is inevitable. sa world of designing, walang sinumang designer ang hindi tumingin ng ibang designs para magkaroon ng inspiration. ripping-off other existing design and claiming that it is "your" design is way too embarrassing.

even me, I am not saying in "words" that Im a good web designer. I will just post it and everyone is free to comment/criticize. Even on deviantart, I don't put watermarks or resizing my screenshots in a smaller size so that they cannot steal my designs.

@hironakamura -
medyo mahirap yung question mo.. pero i will try to answer it..

It's very general and broad yung tanong mo . kasi in the field of "design" and "web industry", kinu-kumpara ang mga designs sa ating "thumbmarks".. magkakamukha pero walang nagkaka pareho.. every person's idea is unique.

novice man, or pro.. hindi yan co-copy ng designs mo..

unless
1. source of inspiration or ideas
2. practitioners from High School or beginners

BUT NOT PUBLISHED and For Private Use only

pero yung design/template mismo tapos i pa publish!... i think. hindi.

they would never steal or "bother" to reproduce someone's design or template  "online" because of the word "branding". Kasi its a waste of time na gagayahin ko lang yung template ng isang designer, kasi maraming fall backs.

"pero paano mo ma-trace kung kinopya yung design mo? "

sa content, photos, codes.. possible! - google

design.. impossible! unless someone will tell you

PS. you also derive other questions from yours like "How can you protect your ownership? or How can you legally buy or sell ownership?"
